Writing A short story about connections to the land and the environment

Students learn to:
• Compose a text that expresses their understanding of the connections people can feel towards their land and environments.

Students learn about:
• Indigenous Australians' connection to land.

• How this connection can be expressed through text passages

• Using dadirri as a way of thinking and planning

ENGLISH

Students talk in groups about connections to the land and to Berry Island and connect their knowledges to the texts they have been studying.

Students close their eyes and use dadirri to listen to teacher-led narrative about Berry Island.

Students write a short narrative about what they felt connected to on Berry Island and why - and then share their stories with the class.

Listen to a story

Students talk in their groups about connections to the land and to Berry Island using their own knowledge as well as the images and notes from site-study.


Share with Others
Students share ideas from group discussions and connect it to the texts they have been studying.


Think and Do

Students close their eyes and use dadirri to listen to teacher-led narrative about what they saw/heard at Berry Island.


Make a Plan
Students think about what they are connected to on the island.


Draw it - hands on

Students write a short narrative about what they felt connected to on Berry Island, and why.


Share with Others
Students who want to will share their stories with the class.
