A history of Berry Island, and its importance to Indigenous Australians

Karen Smith, the Heritage Officer proves the guided tour around the Site.
Students are to follow Karen Smith around the site, listening to Smith
explaining some of the sites and what they mean to the Indigenous Australians that lived there.

Students are able to ask any respectful
questions they have. At the end of the previous lesson before the site visit,
students have written down a question that they would like to ask the Heritage Officer

ACTIVITIES
Listen to a story, Make a Plan

Students get guided tour of Gadyan Trail by Karen Smith - listening to the stories and information, as well as observing the artefacts/flora/fauna presented to them - explaining some of the sites and what they mean to Indigenous Australians.

Share with Others
Students talk in large yarn circle about their experience and understanding of the place.

Watch first, then do
Students then fill in worksheet (in groups of 3-4 with differing tasks) by self-directed study.

Share with Others
Students share their new knowledge with others in yarn circle.

Think and Do, Draw it - hands on
Students reflect on Berry Island with choice of tasks (poem, drawing, story, journal entry)
